Seniors Need Protection Against Excess Iron.
A recent study at a West Coast University documented groundbreaking results about the link between excess iron and neurodegenerative brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. This result is particularly significant for seniors who are taking preemptive aging steps to foster their senior health. Those seniors who are already consuming green tea, quercetin, curcumin, and lipoic acid have already taken important steps to reverse the accumulation of iron that is typical in seniors. This iron overload is known to be an important factor in the other degenerative disease such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. It turns out that one of the compounds, EGCG, in green tea is especially helpful in reducing the iron accumulation, because it binds to the iron and removes it from the body. EGCG can even cross the blood-brain barrier to remove the iron from the brain. This process of removing iron this way is known as chelation. Curcumin, which is a major component of the spice tumeric, is another very effective iron chelator. In addition the quercetin that is found in fruits such as cranberry and pomegranate have potent iron celating capabilities. Finally lipoic acid chelates iron in the sites that store iron. In conclusion seniors who consume all four of these iron chelators will be taking multiple preemptive aging steps to foster their senior health.
